This phase, known as the Second Karachi Port Pro- ject, comprises many individual and different schemes, including the construction of a new oil berth: widening and deepening of the existing shipping channel; procure- ment of two suitable cutter-suction dredgers; reconstruc- tion of berths 1-4, east wharf, including shore and cargo facilities: construction of three new berths at west wharf including shore and cargo facilities: erection of a lighterage wharf; construction of a new ship repair jetty: rehabilitation of the Manora Breakwater and preparation of a master plan for the future developrnent of the port facilities.

A CONTRACT for designing and planning housing for 40,- 000 Arabs has been awarded to a Swedish firm of archi- tects, Jan Thurfjell of Lulea. The contract is reported to be worth between US$120,000 and $180,000.
The assignment covers three individual projects: 4.000 houses for the Kuwait Army to be built in villages of 150 housing units each, one-family homes in a residen- tial section on the outskirts of the capital, Al Kuwait, and 10 complete bedouin villages with between 100-200 houses each.
While the first two projects are firm, the bedouin villages will have to wait while water is being sought in the desert. So far, drilling has only produced oil.

The largest building in the world, the new vertical assembly building at Cape Kennedy Space Flight Centre, near Miami, Florida, USA, is now nearing completion.
It is 524 ft. high and the same distance in depth and width, giving it a cubic capacity of over 129 million cu. ft. Each of the four doors is 456 ft. high, equal in height to a 45-storey building.
