Miniature Typewriter Prints Letters on Drawings
AN alternative to stencils and transfers for inserting lettering, mea- surements, etc., on architectural and building drawings is the German- made Gritzner lettering machine.

This is a miniature typewriter that fits on
to the horizontal bar of a drawing machine and prints clear, uniform letters, figures and symbols that are suitable for reproduction, and can easily be erased if necessary.
The lettering machine 54 in. by 64 in, at the base, by 3% in. high, and weighs 1 lb. 12 oz. The keyboard is arranged for single- handed operation and holds 34 keys. including shift, spacer, stop and release keys. Characters include full alphabet of 3 mm. high capitals. 11 frequently used lower-case letters, the figures 0-9, and 14 conventional draughtsman's symbols triangle, plus, minus, etc.

These are inked from a pad that swings down under the type just be- fore it touches the paper, without obscuring the drawing during align- ment. The pad is soaked with special ink, one drop of which is said to be sufficient for about 5,000 impressions.

The machine is supplied with a special ruler, embodying a toothed guide rail, which is substituted for the conventional horizontal rule of the
