Gestetner E$455 stencil cutter

The original is placed at the right- hand side of the drum with a clean stencil next to it. The drum revolves at a constant speed and an electronic device scans the original in a series of lines, activating a stylus on the carbon-impregnated stencil. This stencil may then be duplicated in the normal way.

WASHBASINS

Narrow Counter-top Models Take Up Little Space

TWO additions to the Swanlyne range of vitreous-china counter-top basins, the Petal and the Wren, have been designed to take up a minimum of counter space and are therefore re- commended for use in hospitals, stu- dent residences, etc., as well as in the home. Both come in white, a standard range of colours, and in two-tone ver- sions.

The Petal consists of a drop-in basin with an integral rim incorporat- ing holes for the hot and cold taps. The oval-shaped Wren, on the other

hand, fits below the counter top, which must therefore be drilled to ac- commodate the taps. Overall dimen- sions of the Petal are 18 by 12 in.; the Wren is made in three sizes: 153⁄4% by 13 in., 1934 by 15 in. and 23 by

16 in.

PUBLIC ADDRESS

Keys Switch Announcements to Selected Speaker Groups

A COMPACT microphone and loud- speaker control set, introduced by Whiteley Electrical Radio Co. Ltd., Mansfield, Notts., UK, clamps to the top of a telephone switchboard for use by the telephonist. Selection keys on the fascia of the set allow an- nouncements to be made through any number up to six speaker groups in the circuit.

The aluminium-cased control unit, 81⁄2 in. wide, 14 in. deep and 2 in. high, has a two-pronged microphone holder suspended from the front of it, and two small lamps on the top. One of these signifies whether the amplifier is already in use for relaying an au- tomatic time signal, while the other lights up when the broadcast system itself is in operation.

The circuit becomes live only when

the microphone has been lifted from the holder and its self-retracting flexi- ble cable fully extended. By depress- ing the appropriate key, the announce- ment is relayed to the selected work area or areas. Any number of loudspeakers may be connected to each of the six groups.
