land covering an area of approximately 4 acres along Jalan Kilang, off Bona Vista Road. On this is erected a ten- storey building, consisting of an ex- tensive three-storey podium of eating stalls, shopping arcades and ticket offices, from which rises seven floors of air-conditioned hotel rooms.
The hotel tower block is oriented so that all room units face north and enjoy unobstructed views of historic Malacca and its surrounds. Ample car parking is provided for visitors and is stationed away from the parking area for public buses.
Structurally the building consists of reinforced concrete columns and beams with brick in-fill walls. The front facade of the hotel rooms is sun-screened with precast concrete fins and decorative precast concrete grilles, also acting as sun screens, are employ- ed to create a featured wall on the western end of the hotel block.
Both the internal and external walls of the building are finished in cement and sand plaster which was the most economical and durable finish possible within the design budget. Within the podium floors, generously wide verandah ways are provided for

easy circulation all around the shops and stalls, as well as for better air circulation under the hot local climatic conditions.
In overall appearance the building, which cost approximately M$3.5 mil- lion to construct, is characterised by its simplicity of form and structure.
Contractors
The main contractor was W.K. Tham Construction Co., which also carried out the piling work and the plumbing installations. The electrical installations were done by Twentieth Century Co. (Melaka) Sdn. Bhd.
