Welding set
ESAB welding units include a ban- tamweight handwelding outfit, produc- ed as a complete unit for immediate use on light or medium metals.
The unit, which is made up of a transformer contained in a heavy- duty polythene case, has nine welding current settings between 50 and 140 amps and an open-circuit voltage of 50 volts. It is electrically insulated and contains an over-load circuit-breaker as an additional safety measure.
The tamper consists of a tamping shoe, a cylinder assembly with springs, a two-stroke petrol engine and a steering handle with fuel tank.
The engine, which is bolted to the cylinder housing, drives the piston through a centrifugal clutch, a reduc- tion gear and a connecting rod. The vertical movement of the piston is transmitted to the cylinder and tamp- ing shoe via damping springs, which ensure smooth operation of the ma- chine.

Vibratory roller
The compacting capacity of a vibra- tory roller is said to equal that of a static roller weighing nine to 16 times as much.
Lokomo towed vibratory rollers have working weights of between 3,800 and 7,800 kg. The power unit is an air-cooled diesel, fitted with cen- trifugal clutch, which drives the vibration staft of the roller by means of V-belts. Eccentric power is trans- mitted through large roller bearings to the roller shell and from there to
the ground.

Air compressor
Air compressor type D 451-R, manu- factured by Irme & Elze, is an air- cooled 6 cylinder machine. Three cylinders operate as the driving diesel- engine, while the rest work as the air- compressor on a common crankshaft. An axial cooling-air blower driven by V-belt provides sufficient cooling. even at tropical temperatures.
An automatic pressure governor controls the adjustable maximum pressure and shifts the compressor to idling when the pressure maximum has been reached. At the same time the engine is set to idling speed.
When the air pressure has dropped the engine speed is increased to full speed and the compressor is then shifted back to full load.
Capacity rating is 45 h.p. and free air delivered is 4.5 cu. metres per min. Operating pressure is 6-8 atmospheres.
