tower containing the main staircase, lift shafts and lava- tories, the building will rise to a height of 170 ft. above a podium structure. It will provide lecture and seminar rooms, common rooms and offices for 1,400 graduates and post-graduates.

Designed by Arup Associates, the basic construction of both blocks consists of twin longitudinal girders of storey height situated at every third floor level and sup- porting the two floors above. Each girder will be carried on a large twin asymmetrical 1-section column positioned some 24 ft. from the end of each block.

Both girders and intermediate floors will be formed with reinforced concrete T-beams at 4 ft. centres spanning 36 ft.

A$10 Million Postal Centre

SYDNEY company, James Wallace Pty. Ltd., has won the A$10 million contract to build Wellington's 13-storey postal centre.

With more than 300,000 sq. ft. of floor space above ground, it will be New Zealand's largest building. Work is expected to take about five years to complete.

Both steel and reinforced concrete framework will be used in the building, which will comprise a five-storey podium 280 ft. long and 135 ft. wide, surmounted by a long tower block 60 ft. wide.

A model of the proposed Hansa town of Hamburg, Germany. Accommodation for 20,000 people is planned on an area of 20 acres. Shops will be provided on the first three floors of the 62-storey buildings and offices on the next four storeys. The remaining floors will be flats, each with its own terrace garden.
