is white bas-reliefs with flowing lines and intricate patterns taken from the decorations on ancient Chinese bronze vessels.
The floor of the mess hall is sur- faced with marble slabs and that for the meeting hall is finished with ter- razzo. Other rooms have parquet floors or are covered with woollen rugs in deep colours.
Ceilings are made from plywood and are painted in colour patterns of traditional Chinese style. All girders are decorated with beautiful Chinese vignettes in rich gold, blue and red hues.
Lavishly embroidered palace lan- terns hang from the ceilings and walls, the candles of ancient times being re- placed by modern fluorescent fittings.
All the furniture is of traditional Chinese design, figures and sketches on the chairs, tables, columns and parti- tion frames being inspired from the shapes of bamboo, plums and pines.
For each hall and room a predo- minant colour is chosen as a theme; the meeting hall is green, the parlour purple and the convention hall vermilion.
The main gateway, designed in patterns and colours to conform with the building stands as an inviting prelude to the sumptuous interiors and. according to Chinese myth, dutifully guards the building from the entry of devils.
