which the tools are mounted, both power rotate a full 360 degrees. This rotating capability allows the operator to place himself to either side of the line of operation to maintain precise visual control. A single foot control gives variable speed ranges from 0 to 15 m.p.h. and an electro-hydraulic drive system provides dynamic braking that is controlled by the same pedal.

ROLLER

The Galion Ironworks & Mfg. Co., Galion, Ohio, USA, are now offering a three-wheel roller which is claimed to be the first with the operator's seat and controls on top of the machine. This

gives the operator a clear view of the compaction action in all directions.

A multi-position steering wheel is fitted movable to the right or left and forward or reverse and a fully enclosed final drive, with no spin dif- ferential, provides maximum power efficiency.

The machine is presently available as a 10-12 ton variable weight model

with 20in. or 24in. compaction rolls. Agents are: United Engineer (Malaysia) Ltd., Kuala Lumpur and Singapore; Mechanical Equipment Co. Ltd., Bang- kok; and International Harvester of Macleod Inc., Manila.

LOADER

A 10 cu.yd. wheel loader with a flywheel horsepower of 550 has been introduced by Caterpillar Far East Ltd., PO Box 13069, Hong Kong. The machine, the 992, has a breakout force of 90,200 lb. and an operating weight of 120,800 lb. to provide good trac- tion. Minimum lift capacity at maxi- mum lift height is 69,000 lb.

Seventy-degree articulated frame steering is provided, rear and front wheels tracking at all times. Control levers actuate pilot valves which op- erate the main control valves, reducing lever effort and travel. The main valves are enclosed in the front hydraulic tank, reducing the number of pressure lines crossing the articulation hitch.

A single lever shift control of the power shift transmission enables the operator to make direct shift from forward to reverse without braking, decelerating or going through neutral in first and second ranges. Speeds range from 7.1 to 24.6 m.p.h. in forward and reverse.

FORK TRUCKS

The Birmingham, UK firm of Hen- ley Forklift Truck Co. Ltd. are produc- ing a new range of fork trucks in capacities of 4,000, 5,000 and 6,000 lb.

All three models are powered by the Perkins 4.203 four-cylinder diesel engine, developing 60 b.h.p. at 2,400 r.p.m. The engine has a 3.6in. bore, a 5in. stroke and 203.5 cu.in. capacity. Maximum torque, obtainable at 1,350 r.p.m. is 151 lb.ft.

The same chassis is used for all three models, which have 8ft. masts. They are also available with 10ft., 12ft. and 14ft. masts.

Maximum forward and reverse speed of the fork trucks, marketed as the Hawk range, is 12 m.p.h. All the con- trol levers are within easy reach of the driver and a fully re-designed instru- mentation panel includes a cigarette lighter.

CIRCULAR SAW

Stanley's new Job-Master 7 in. circular saw is designed for balanced handling. The open handle grip is complemented by an adjustable front- end auxiliary handle to help stabilise the base on the working area for additional control.

The cutting area is kept clear of sawdust with a built-in jet dust chute and a shock-absorbing spring steel beam gives housing protection. A self-measur- ing steel rip guide ensures accuracy on ripping cuts.

Safety features include: a 'free start' blade guard with self-lubricating bearing which telescopes at the slightest pressure, allowing the blade to enter the cut smoothly at angles as fine as five degrees; a motor saver' safety clutch drive to protect the motor against damage if the blade strikes a knot or nail; and a rear-position control panel for setting depth or bevel. The power unit is a 2h.p. AC/DC motor.

The Stanley Works, 195 Lake Street, New Britain, Conn., USA, are the makers.
