Profilit glazing fixed to outer edge of spiral ramp

which is extracted into the core and drawn through circular ducting to a fan at the top of the tower.

Lighting is by a waterproof poly- propylene light fitting in each pod op- erated by a pull switch. This type of fitting is also used to illuminate the access ramp.

The waste system is in copper and takes the form of three single stacks each of six prefabricated branch as- semblies separated by straight tubes. The arrangement of w.c.s is ideal for a central flushing system with valves at each w.c. The Metropolitan Water Board, London, will not allow this, so there is a separate hardened rubber cistern in the core for each w.c.

One of the bathroom pods is being omitted at each level and washing ma- chines, drying units and coffee chines are being incorporated in a ser- vice bay immediately opposite each entrance to the tower.

The tower is topped with a cylin- drical water tank of 3,600 gal. cap- acity, fabricated from glass fibre re- inforced Celmar polypropylene sheet. It measures 10 ft. high by 9 ft. dia- meter, and is decorated in bold black and white vertical candy stripes. This tank was manufactured by Surface Productions Ltd.

The glass fibre units employ normal hand lay-up techniques and could be produced in a large variety of forms. As the cost summary shows, tooling costs for this process are only about one-sixth of the cost of a unit.

Architects: Farrell/Grimshaw Partner- nership. Main contractors: A. Bell and Sons (Paddington) Ltd. Structural steel- work: W. H. Smith and Co. (Whitchurch) Ltd. G.R.P. bathroom pods: Integral Plas- tics Ltd., Blackbushe Trading Estate, Camberley, Surrey, U.K.
