It has been decided to ask Gov- ernment to reserve two sites for fu- ture development, viz:-(1) One of about 6 acres in a housing zone at the new industrial

township of

Kwun Tong, on Kowloon Bay, to be developed at a density of about 1,200 per acre; and (2) Another, of about 10 acres, at Tsuen Wan. New Territories. A pilot scheme of about 500 flats will first be built on about 4 acres, leaving room for fu- ture expansion if found desirable.

Progress of Consortium:-Blocks A, B, C, D & M: (Messrs. Chau & Lee): -- Working drawings have been approved by the Building Au- thority in principle, though negotia- tions on minor points continue. In the meantime preparation of detail drawings has started.

Blocks S. T and U (Messrs. Leigh and Orange): -The structur- al work on Block S has been com- pleted, and finishings are making good progress. If it can be main- tained it is hoped to finish this block in mid-May. Plumbing work, especially p.v.c. piping, seems to be

going rather slowly, however, and this may affect the finishing date.

This scheme. the planning of which is being carried out by the Authority's own architectural staff. is making good progress, and the Governor's approval in principle has already been sought to proceed, under the provisions of the Housing Ordinance. On a site of about 7 acres it is intended to construct, in two blocks of 10 sections, averag- ing 13 stories in height, a total of 2.070 flats (520 5-person, 1,138 6- person. and 412 7-person), to commodate about 12,300 are continuing

persons, i.e. at a nett density of 1,640 per acre. All the flats will be self-con- tained, with a living/sleeping room, verandah, toilet with W.C. and shower, and a kitchen.

On this site it is intended to construct an estate of 7,630 flats, to accommodate about

about 43,340 per- about a capital cost of $52,460,000. The gross neighbour- hood density will be 1,930 per acre. The estate will also include secondary and two primary schools, 50 shops, a community centre, and bus terminus. There will be eight "slab" blocks, each of 20 stories, with 38 flats on each floor, ser- viced by three lifts, interspersed with low buildings of 7 stories, con- taining no lifts. All the flats will be self-contained, with a single liv- ing/sleeping room, verandah, kit- chen, and toilet.

There will be one long block, running the length of the site, and a shorter block on the other axis, both with central corridor access, and equipped with lifts and refuse chutes. Twenty one shops and an estate office will also be incor- porated, and the total capital cost of the scheme is estimated $17,000,000. The Conditions of Grant of the site are being dis- cusssed with the P.W.D., but the cost of land has not yet been finalised, nor has the extent to which the Authority will be liable for the cost of main drainage, water services.
