minimum side spacing of 6 ft. 6 in. The Hospital generally is based on a 10. grid and this gives dimensions of 9 ft. 7 in. and 19 ft 7 in. for single and double bays respectively
in most cases.
Treatment rooms are provided to give special facilities for commina. tions, X-ray viewing, sterilizing and minor operations.
Baths generally are raised and with steps to make it easier for nurses to bath patients without too much stooping.
The linen rooms or general ward stores are provided with adjustable racks and sliding step ladders and with facilities for folding and storing linen and hanging mattresses ver. tically for better ventilation

The children's wards are generally similar but have recessed balconies. and a total of only 24 beds including six single roonis. Small W.C's and babies baths have also been provided specially.
The standard ward plans have also been modified for the Southeast ward and for other special wards but as lar as possible individual rooms in them follow the standard details.
As this is an acute hospital little day space has been provided in the wards but common spaces are avail- able on the roofs of the West and Southeast wings if required.
The allocation of the 1,328 beds is as follows: Obstetrics, 165 exclud- ing cots; Gynaecology, 62; Surgery, 305 including 66 children; Ortho- paedic, 112 including 22 children; Neurosurgery, 88; Casualty, 6; Eye, 14; ENT, 27; Dental, 14: Medicine, 217; Paediatric medicine, 125 in- cluding 22 isolation and admission beds: Skin. 27 Radiology, 88; Prison, 28; Private. 60.
