the treatment rooms and crockery in the ward kitchens. In addition bed pan sterilizers are in cluded in children's, maternity. and certain other wards where cross in- fection risks are high. Except in a few isolated cases where elec- tricity was more convenient, and for standby purposes, the units are all normally steam operated.

Stills. hot and cold water steri- lizers. special high speed high vacuum automatic and rapid cooling fluids autoclaves of the latest types have also been built in to suit speci fic medical requirements in such areas as the milk formula laboratory, operating theatre sterilizing rooms, Casualty, pathology. pharmacy and central sterile supply.

For the two 40 gallon per hour stills and 28 cubic foot autoclaves in particular. special ventilation rangements have been made to ex- tract the excess heat from fully air- conditioned areas.

A large pass-through disinfector incorporating steam ejection, 20 inch vacuum and hot air drying features has been installed leaving space for another if necessary.

(C) Incinerators

Electrical foot operated incinera. tors of approximately one cubic foot capacity and with automatic cut-off controls and fan-assisted extracts have been installed generally in sluice rooms.

Two diesel oil large

large forced draft incinerators each of 100 lbs per hour capacity have also been installed for use in disposing with items from the operating theatres and general Hospital rubbish.

As tht exhaust gases are much hotter than those from the main boilers. the flue gases have been kept separate for a height of ap- proximately 45 feet to eliminate any danger from a flash back.

(D) Medical Gas and Air Services

Piped services have been installed for oxygen, nitrous oxide. suction and compressed air. In all, over 1600 points will be provided and so far more than seven miles of special piping has been used.
