NEW NORTHCOTE TEACHERS
COLLEGE IN HONG
ORK has just begun on the Northcote Teacher's Training College between Sassoon Raod and Victoria Road in Hong Kong.
Provision of increased training facilities for would-be teachers has become important in view of the expanding programme for building new schools in the Colony.
The importance of constructing a building which will offer a suitable
background and environment for future teachers as well as providing the necessary training facilities was a factor which weighed heavily in the design stage of the planning.
The site, which is a sloping one in a rural area overlooking the
sea, although complicated to
handle gave the architects plenty of scope in producing their interesting scheme.
The structure itself in divided into four main units:
CLASSROOM BLOCK, including recreational and dining facilities:
HOSTEL BLOCK, for accom- modating male and female resident students:
WARDENS' FLATS, to house four wardens and their families: and
CARETAKERS QUARTERS which will accommodate nine care- takers.
