The Chartered Bank Building is being built in two phases, and the Bank will, as a temporary measure, move to the first and second floors of the first portion on Des Voeux Road in March 1958, in order that its old premises on Queen's Road may be demolished. The new building will contain approximately 80,000 square feet for use by tenants, but this accommoda- tion will not be ready for occupation until February 1959 for the Des Voeux Road section, and June 1959 for the Queen's Road portion.
The Bank itself will occupy four floors. The Treasury, Safe Deposit and garage accommodation will occupy the lower ground floor, the Banking Hall the main ground floor, various departments of the Bank, the mezzanine floor, and the Bank's Import and Export Bill departments, the first floor. An interesting feature of the Banking Hall will be an ornamental frieze containing heraldic devices in Venetian glass mosaics, depicting the Bank's armo- rial bearings and the crests of various cities of the Orient where the Bank is established.
