The ramp makes it possible to pass easily and naturally from one level to another, and while it takes up more space and is a little more expensive than a stairway it reduces the strain climbing up and down stairs. It also adds a remarkably distinctive touch to the interior of a building.

The house is really a two storey building, but has in fact four distinct levels. It will be seen from the cross- sectional drawing that the entrance lobby with the two children's bed- rooms off it constitute one level, the servants' rooms below this is of course a second level, but owing to the ar- rangement of the ramps the master bedroom suite on the first floor and the living rooms below are on two different levels from those of the first two sections.
