The water supply has been care- fully planned and fresh water from the Government mains and flushing water from the nullahs at the back of the site are all piped into the buildings with a low level pressure system, the water from both sources being taken into cylinders where the pressure is built up by air com-

pressors. In the officers blocks, all wiring is concealed in conduits, but in the other ranks' quarters the wiring is of the surface type. The site, at the termination of Cornwall Road, was hilly and un- developed prior to building opera tions, and the presence now of the imposing structures which have been erected on it, has undoubtedly contributed much to the physical improvement and picturesqueness of that area.
The cost of the entire scheme was £480,000. This works out at a very satisfactory cube rate, but this may be due to a certain extent to the

fact that many strategic materials and fittings were supplies from War Department Stores.
Messrs. Palmer & Turner are the architects for the whole project, and in their designs they have incorporated several new and in- teresting features, chiefly aimed at providing each apartment with the maximum privacy and all modern facilities and conveniences. Messrs. Langdon & Every acted as quantity surveyors for the project in colla- boration with the architects.
Paul Y. Construction Co., who are now under contract to Far East Land Forces for the construction of Temporary Married Quarters at Sek Kong, New Territories, were the General Building Contractors for the first phase and they were res- ponsible for the entire construction operations of the first three blocks, including all the necessary work for road and site formations.
Winsome Co. are the Contractors for the second group of four blocks.
Lifts were supplied and installed by the Otis Elevator Company; the electrical work was carried out by the China Engineers Ltd; and gas cookers and geysers were in- stalled by the Hongkong & China Gas Co., Ltd.
