a large masonry wall surrounding it; the contrast of the stone against the otherwise plain concrete on this elevation is very striking and forms a definite point of interest.
The inside dimensions of the gymnasium are 47 ft. by 92 ft by about 20 ft. high, and the equipment includes climbing ropes, wall bars, climbing ladders and movable equipment such as vaulting horses. In addition to these usual amenities, there is also laid out a full-size basketball court with permanent fixtures projecting from the end walls. The floor is designed to be especially resistant to the heavy wear to which it will be subjected.
There is ample clerestory lighting from both side walls. One of these walls is fitted with folding doors for almost its entire length, so that in

summer, they may be thrown open for maximum air circulation. Along the opposite wall, there is a single- storey adjunct, which includes changing rooms for 40 boys, 10 showers, an instructor's room with private shower and toilet, and a general store room. Two music rooms are attached to the gymna- sium at the far end, so that dis- turbing sounds will be kept as remote from the school as possible.
On the other side of the covered passage leading to the gym, but still forming an integral part of the new structure, are two large classrooms, one for art and drawing, the other for geography, each being provided with a special store room.
The new buildings were opened by the Hon D. J. S. Crozier, the Director of Education at the begin-
ning of the year. During the open- ing ceremonies, the Hon. P. S. Cassidy, Vice-Chairman of the School Committee said in his address "The gym is going to be a most valuable asset to the School and I feel sure it will be put to full use, and I hope the boys who are in the School today and those who come after them will derive all the benefit they can from the means which have been placed at their disposal of making themselves and keeping themselves fit. I expect some of the other schools will envy the D.B.S., but if it leads to a general move. ment for the setting up of similar gymnasiums, the Colony will have gained from our example.
