Already completed, and standing ten storeys high upon its splendid site well above Robinson Road, is the first of four buildings which together will con- stitute a big apartment development in that very pleasant part of the midlevels.
The twenty apartments which it con- tains have a magnificent view clear across Central Hongkong and the Kowloon Peninsula to Kai Tak.
Originally the site, Nos. 1-3, Robin- son Road, was held up by old retain- ing walls. These have had to be extended and re-aligned in the course of extensive site formation work to accommodate the projected group of buildings, and this work is still con- tinuing.
Eventually there will be a wide ter- race along the front of the area so that cars entering from the rear by way of Upper Glenealy Road can circulate. freely between the apartment blocks the ground floors of which are open to provide parking space.
On either side of this new building there will be a similar block set so that the three will form a gentle, well- spaced arc. The southernmost block, where the site narrows somewhat, will be of different plan with a longer frontage and less depth. It will face nearly due east across the junction of Upper Glenealy and Robinson Roads.
Access to the two apartments on each floor is from a central lift which collects the passengers from the car- ports on the ground floor. A service lift in the rear is provided for the use of domestics.
Just within the entrance of each flat is a dining-room opening onto a living- room which has a balcony in front of the building. In rear of the dining- room is the kitchen and servants' quarters, including a back verandah. Alongside the dining-room is a front bedroom, with bathroom and built-in wardrobes. Behind it, along the out- side of the building, are two smaller bedrooms separated by a second bath-
room.
The clean lines and neat central disposition of the green-coloured bal- conies make this building stand out conspicuously on its elevated position above the Botanical Gardens, in an area where several fine blocks have already been built or are now under construction.
