This new Government building will be situated in the heart of Kluang on a site reserved for the proposed Tele- communications Building and future Post Office and is the beginning of Kluang's civic centre as visualized in the approved Town Planning lay-out for this area. The proposed Telecommunications Building will flank an imposing avenue serving the Railway Station and shopping centre.

The proposal envisages the Telecommunications Build- ing "L" shaped on plan, sited on sloping ground with the highest point on the West side. This difference in levels on the site has been fully exploited by locating the store- rooms as a semi-basement under the offices in the West Wing.

The apparatus rooms, M.D.F. & Test Room, Switch- board room and A.C.T.'s office are to be air-conditioned, and on unusual feature of the design is the two windows on the west elevation which are designed to reflect daylight into air-conditioned rooms but to exclude the direct rays of the Western sunlight. The remainder of the windows on the West side are provided with protective hoods.

The general construction of the building is of rein- forced concrete framing with 9" brick panels, finished externally with cement rendering.

The floors of the air-conditioned rooms are to be of wood block construction, of the battery room

quarry tiles and mosaic on the staircase.

The Coat of Arms illustrated on the perspective draw- ing is that of the State of Johore.

The appearance of the completed Telecommunications Building and future Post Office is excellently illustrated in the perspective drawing by Mr. K. A. Brundle, A.A.Dipl., A.K.I.B.A., of the P.W.D.
