Standard steel windows were used in the servants' quar- lers and for the windows facing the courtyard. The windows in the main elevations have large panes in order to take advantage of the fine views. The size of these panes is the maximum permissible in 32 oz. glass for winds of typhoon strength.

INTERNAL FINISHES.

Floors are teak parquet in Living rooms, bedrooms and pastages. Bathrooms and kitchens have tiled floors and walls. All plumbing in the bathrooms is concealed.

Built-in cup- boards are ventilated and have points for electric heaters. Floors of all cupboards are raised above skirting level and are tiled to facilitate cleaning. Doors are flush throughout.

The Entrance hall floor is paved with dark brown tiles 9" X 24" laid in herring-bone pattern. Walls are white and doors to flats are painted pale blue. Staircase railing is of wrot iron painted white, with a teak handrail painted blue to match the doors. The staircase window, which runs the full height of the building, is painted white.

Flower beds have been incorporated in the paving of the main entrance. These will be planted with evergreen tropical plants and creepers which do not require direct sunlight, and which will be chosen for their foliage rather than for their flowers.

SERVICES.

Plumbing is concealed in internal ducts, accessible at each floor. Tanks, lift motor room and staircase have been incor- porated in one tower on the roof. Electrical mains and telephone cables rise in a duct at the side of the lift shaft. Electric meters are in this duct and are accessible from the public lobby without entering any of the flats. Cooking and refrigeration is by gas or electricity, and water heating by thermostatically controlled electric heaters.

WIRELESS AERIAL,

A single aerial system with socket points in the living room of each flat has been provided. Screened cables cut out local interference and a special device at each socket point enables all flats to use the same aerial simultaneously without interfering with one another.

The building was designed by Mr. John F. Howorth of Leigh & Orange.
