table. These slabs have been donated. The exposed surfaces have been highly polished and trimmed with teak margin so that the full beauty of graining of the representative Philippine timbers has been brought out. The floor is covered with cork tiling.
The basement is constructed to be of use as an air raid shelter in case of emergency, while the plan of the building and the accessibility of services throughout make it very suitable for use in a crisis as an emergency hospital.
Externally the structure is faced with a waterproofed cement plaster with a "Stipplecrete" cement finish, above a base of specially made facing tiles. Steel windows are used throughout, opening in three sections, the lower bottom hung opening in, the centre, side being opening out, and the upper top hung pushing out. Floors gener- ally are of teak parquet to laboratories and lecture rooms, terrazzo to main halls and staircases, and cork tile to staff rooms and library. Walls to iaboratories are plas· tered with a hard Keene's cement, finished with enamel.
