fashion allows the roof of one to become the terrace for the one above.

These stacked homes, as in Habitat '67, will be con- structed from large-scale, three-dimensional prefabricated elements of lightweight concrete.

Building Units of Brick, Plastics and Gypsum Slabs

A NEW type of prefabricated building component for outer walls a core of foam plastic with exterior cladding of nailed brickboard and interior cladding of gypsum slabs has been introduced in Sweden.

According to the manufacturers, AB Denax, Lindes- berg. the Norfoam polyurethane plastic wall component is about 20 per cent cheaper than outer walls of com- parable technical and insulating properties. Since it is also thinner, measuring 17-18 cm in thickness, than con- ventional timber structure walls with brick cladding, it also provides more living space for given outer dimensions of the building.

The entire wall component is factory-moulded accord- ing to a patented foaming process which takes only four minutes. The standard size is 2,500 x 1,200 mm. and the thickness 178 mm. The rigid foam core is 140 mm. thick, the nailed brickboard 25 mm, and the gypsum slab 13 mm.

All integrating components as well as window and door frames are moulded into the unit. On the erection site, interior partition walls can be joined to the outer wall units by means of polyurethane spraying.

Because of their low weight, about 50 kg per square metre, the wall elements are easy to transport and handle on the building site.

He will receive the medal, instituted in 1848 by Queen Victoria, in London on June 18. The presentation will be made by the President of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Sir Hugh Wilson.
