When these courts were completed, two of the old courts were forfeited to make way for the new building and car park. In considering the advisability of planning this, it was decided to take up with Gov- ernment the question of the extension of the original 75-year lease granted in 1883, without which the project could not have been undertaken. Government proved very co-operative and renewed the lease for a further 75 years.
The foundation stone of the new pre- mises was laid in March by Mrs. D.L. Prophet, President of the Ladies Recrea- tion Club. The Building Sub-Committee believes that the new two-storeyed club- house incorporates all the necessities for the Club's immediate requirements.
The main entrance is from Peak Road, down a private drive-way to the main door, where passengers may alight from their cars under cover.

The parking situation thus is a vast im- (Right) Site plan provement over the old layout when there was space for only 6 cars. However,
parking will still be a problem and it is (Below fortunate that a large number of members live within walking distance of the Club.
The dominating feature of the new building is the large central hall. This has been designed primarily as a badmin- ton court and for this reason it has a height of 30 feet. It will, however, also be used for deck tennis, table tennis. dances, amateur dramatics and any other activities or social functions of the Club.
The floor around three sides of the hall is raised a foot above it. which gives spectators a better view of the game in progress, and keeps them off the playing
area.
Other amenities provided on this floor include a men's changing room and the long bar which is easily accessible from the pool and the rest of the club-house. An extensive covered verandah overlooks two of the tennis courts, the harbour and, at its southern end, the swimming pool. The ceiling of this has been designed on the pool and the rest of the club-house. Different sections of the ceiling have been coloured to provide an interesting and lively pattern when seen from below. The fluorescent lights installed between the louble beams stress this pattern and are also partly concealed. The additional slab below the beam at the front of the veran- dab forms an architectural feature and acts as a sun-break.
Accommodation provided on the first floor includes a reading room, dining room, a large lounge, the ladies' changing room and the office. This floor overlooks
