it. A wide natural stone staircase leads from the road level up to the ground floor and provides the access to the entrance hall which is backed by a full height window attractively squared in concrete framing. This entrance hall divides the house into two sections with the main living and reception rooms on the right hand side and the bedrooms on the left hand side.

The three large bed rooms each have an attached bathroom and built- in cupboards, with a dressing room added to the master's bedroom. A large family lounge hall opening on to a private patio, a large drying room, and a guest lavatory conveni- ently located near to the entrance hall, complete the arrangeinent of this part of the house,

The large full length partially covered terrace opening off the living room by means of wide sliding folding doors, and the lounge terrace opening off the bedrooms on higher level for extra privacy, are included in the amenities. From these terraces, which incidentally are formed over the retaining wall, a beautiful view of Deep Water Bay is obtained.

The planning of the reception area has been particularly well done, with a foyer on the same level as the entrance hall leading to the dining room both of which sections. surround the actual living room set at an appreciable lower level. The ceiling of the living room being much lower than the dining room one, the beam separating the two

rooms rather restricts the opening between them. The architect in- stead of trying to hide this feature has included it as part of the decor- ative planning with some flower boxes and grilles emphasizing the division.

From the entrance hall a short staircase and gallery leads onto the roof of the building and underneath this gallery, and forming a very interesting and clever feature of the foyer arrangement, is a beautifully appointed bar. A separation be- tween foyer and living room near the entrance itself has been effected by some very clever wrought iron grille work, divided into four panels representing the four seasons of the year. An illustration of this panel is shown in the drawing which details the design and in the photograph which shows its location.

Directly off the dining room is a door leading to the pantry, the kit- chen and the servants' room which are built in behind the foyer wall. A door from the servants' room opening directly onto the entrance hall enables the servant to answer the door bell or to proceed to the bedrooms without passing through the reception area.
