for the illumination of the cross at the apex of the building are by Strand Electric & Engineering Co., Ltd. Ail fluorescent equipment is by Messrs. Smart & Brown (Engineers) Ltd., and main switch- gear and certain accessories by Messrs. Walsall Conduits
Conduits Ltd. The ventilation system (not yet completed has been designed and is being supplied by Messrs. Greenwoods & Airvac Ventilating Co., Ltd.
The lighting has been designed by the architect in collaboration with Mr. H. L. W. Aiken, M. Inst. Ex. E., and the engineers of Messrs Gordon, Woodroffe & Co. (Far East) Ltd., Engineering Department, (Succes- sors to Wm C. Jack & Co., Ltd.), who also carried out the whole of the installation.
The general construction of the building is of reinforced concrete. Both the school wing and the south wing are of ordinary continuous slab-beam-column construction and present no special interest. The structural system of the church portion consists chiefly of a number of hinged rigid frames with curved horizontal members which support
the curve-shaped roof. The in- creasing sections of the vertical members of these frames as struc- turally required, are exposed in the interior of the church which apart from adding to the aesthetic value of the high ceiling, also improve the acoustics of the parallel walls of the hall.
There are eight of these frames but only one is hinged at the ground level, while the rest spring either from the church hall level or the gallery floor, a difference of 35 feet. In the design of these frames, it is considered that both the church hall girders and the gallery fulcrum girder are sufficiently massive to ensure rigidity for hinging of the upper frames.
The clerestory walkways are suspended from the horizontal mem- bers of the rigid frames; this arrangement helps to provide lateral stiffening of the system.
Work on the preparation of the site was begun in June 1950 when the First sod was turned by the Hon. J. F. Nicoll, C.M.G., Officer Administering the Government. Building work began in February, 1951. The classrooms were put
into use in September, 1951.

The total cost of the buildings, furniture and equipment $1,590,000.00. The Government very graciously made a free grant of this very valuable site and also made a grant of $450,000.00. Of the balance required, the Methodist Society of Great Britain gave $480,000.00 and the Hong Kong Chinese Church has undertaken to provide $660,000.00.
