NE of the most striking and im
pressive new buildings on Hong
Kong's skyline is the aptly named "Skyscraper." a 20 storey building jutting out on # man-made ledge above Tin Hau Temple Road, at North Point.
The height of the building from lower ground level to machine room roof is 280 feet, however about 60 feet of this is taken up by the reinforced concrete stepped raft foundations.
The "Skyscraper" stands as clean as a monument uncluttered by frills and unspoiled by ugly pipe stacks.
Economy and the absence of pro- jecting balconies (because of the ex- posed position) also played a part in the neat lines of the building. It is a fine addition to the other projects. that the architects have designed, such as the giant President Hotel in Kow- loon.
The Department of Civil Aviation were quick to install an aircraft warning light on the top of the towering building at their own ex- pense as it is directly across the harbour from Kai Tak airport.
