EVER SEE A BRICK FLOAT?

TREATED BRICK

UNTREATED BRICK

Highly porous fire bricks were selected. One brick was treated with UCAL silicone water repellent, the other was not. Later, when both were placed in water, the untreated brick almost instantly soaked up enough water to cause it to sink. The other, even though the silicone repellent had left it porous, would float because the strong hatred of silicone repellent for water prevented the water from entering the pores.
