KUN TONG FIRE STATION

dormitory and reach their stations

on the ground floor by means of a sliding pole placed in the staircase well, a mess room and lavatory accommodation.

The second floor comprises two flats, and a third small flat is on the third floor, with laundry and drying space over one flat.

Special alarm bells are placed in the bedrooms of these officers flats and when the men are wanted for duty the bells ring and the bedroom lights automatically go on.

Floors in the flats are of teak. in the canteen of vitreous tiles and in the barrack room and dormitory of the special quarry tiles. In the watch room and ready store the floors are of asphalt tiles.

The drying tower is one of the most used portions of any fire station, because apart from its pri mary use. for which the hoses are use are hauled up to hang from hattens at the top of the seven- storey tower to dry in the draught caused by the open concrete grille that pierces the whole of one side of the tower.

Only half of the volume of the tower is occupied by this drying area. The other half is occupied by seven rooms one on top of the other to make a realistic seven-storeyed building in which firemen can prac- tise attacking a fire and rescuing people trapped by fire. To with- stand the heavy wear given by drag. ging hoses and by the damage caused the boots of the firemen the sills to the windows of each of these prac tice rooms is made of specially thick baulks of teak.
