1965 revision of British Standard Code of Practice No. 114. According to the architects this code produces substan- tial savings in structural cost compared with structural codes normally used in Hong Kong. Structural members are smaller because the BS Code puts the strength exactly where it is required, rather than making some parts ex- cessively strong. Unnecessary costs are saved without reducing overall strength.
Final cost of the scheme was HK$ 639,000, which includes foundations, building and finishes, plumbing, elec- tric wiring and fittings, and external paving, but excludes stage equipment and fees. The volume of the building is 336,000 cu. ft.; cost per cu. ft. was thus HK$1.90.
-
The time schedule was: sketch plans approved - June 1967; general plans submitted to Buildings Ordinance Of- fice November 1967; general con- tract tenders called - February 1968; work started on site April 1968; building completed -- November 1968.
