In spite of all the alarms and uncertainties sur- rounding Hong Kong's position in political affairs in the Far East and the pessimism engendered thereby, there are still residents in the Colony with sufficient confidence in its future to continue the building programme they have set out for themselves. Actually we feel that were a sufficiency of building materials available at compara- tively reasonable prices there would be a surprising amount of building work in progress right now.
As it is, while a majority of prospective builders are marking time awaiting immediate developments, there is still a
fair amount of planning being done with a view to work being put in hand as soon as plans are approved.
The architect's drawings shown on these pages are from the plans of a new residence to be built on Barker Road by the well-known architect, Mr. G. Van Wylick of the firm of Messrs. Credit Foncier d'Extreme-Orient.
Due to its position below the Barker Road level the unusual feature of having the garage on the top floor is provided. In all other respects the house is normal,
