Looking towards the entrance lobby.
Another view of the drawing room.
Another view of the dining room.
Set into the wall to the right of the entrance is a beautifully design- ed fireplace of green marble, which is flanked on one side by a blackwood stand for Chinese bric-a-brac and antiques and, on the other side, by a high blackwood table with addition.. al Chinese objets d'art.
In front of this fireplace are ar- ranged two settees and two lounging chairs beautifully covered in silk bro- cade in contrasting colours of green and rose. In the sitting room sec- tion, there is a somewhat similar ar rangement, but with brocade uphols tery in green and gold. On the wall opposite the windows are framed panels of Chinese calligraphy and floral paintings which, with the dark wall as background, provide a most striking decorative theme.
The sliding doors between this liv- ing room and the dining room are composed of four screens of exquisite. ly hand embroidered tapestry, which provide a most colourful and in- dividual note. The colour of the wall surrounding these doors is beige, a neutral setting which blend the canels into the surroundings, yet emphasize their beauty.
Built into the wall to the left of the entrance is a liquor cabinet, the doors of which are artistically inlaid with a coloured floral pattern. When these doors are open and the cabinet is in use, there is disclosed on the inner face of the doors a beautiful monotone inlay in a different floral design.
The dining room furniture consists of two round extension tables with chairs to match, and a long cabinet extending practically the full length of the inner wall. This furniture is of finest natural coloured teakwood. beautifully carved and polished, of a pattern based on a modified contin- ental style. The chairs have flower- ed brocade backs and seats. The walls in this room are painted a light saxe blue colour with window frames to match, and the drapes continue this colour scheme.
The lighting to the apartment is indirect and emanates from fluores- cent tubes concealed behind the cur- tain pelmets, so arranged that the light is not only thrown upwards to- wards the ceiling but also down- wards onto the window drapes. In the sitting room, two wall bracket light fittings with gold finish add a decorative touch to the wall behind the fireplace, while in the dining room. similar fittings but with silver finish are placed above the long serving cabinet. A crystal chan- deller in the centre of the dining room is the only ceiling fitting in the two rooms.
