On the roof have been built three very bright and plea- sant flats for the senior officials of the company. These three flats have not been built in one block but in three separate units, thus giving each flat light on four sides and a feeling of independence. Each flat has an area of flat roof about the size of a suburban garden and enjoys a magnificent view of Victoria Harbour and the Kowloon Hills.
In view of the precarious water supply of Hong Kong the Company has very wisely arranged to collect storm- water in an underground tank in front of the main block, the reinforced concrete cover forming a parking ground and turning point for staff and visiting cars. A four foot diameter well is now being dug at the rear of the building and is at present down to about forty five feet and giving
a fair supply. It will probably be driven another thirty feet. There is a further supply in a tank located under the condensing tower.
In this city of antiquated manufacturing methods and conditions, it is hoped that efforts such as this will set an example which will eventually lead to the modernizing of our factory building standards to the enhancement of the workers' comfort and the Colony's prestige.
