the compressor wires are uniformly distributed over the cross section.

I have tried to give you, in this limited time, a very short resume of what prestressed concrete is, how it is produced, to what structures it has been applied, the plant required for the production, one or two words on the design, and finally a short description of the work carried out at the Experi- mental Station and Pilot Plant in the U.K.

A considerable amount of capital was spent by th. M.O.W. and private industry, and several years were re- quired to obtain the results which I indicated shortly in this Report. As a result of this work more than twenty factories produce prestressed concrete units or construct such structures in

situ. These results are FLOW at our disposal with all the technical details of actual production. If sufficient interest is forthcoming here, an Ex- perimental Station and Pilot Plant similar to the one near London may be erected in Hong Kong and proto- types of prestressed units produced with a fraction of the capital expended in U.K., and within a few months instead of seveal years.

If this policy is adopted, Hong Kong can be made the focal point in this part of the world in all matters con- cerning this new building material. Hong Kong can also be made the centre of distribution of the technical knowledge as well as the centre of distribution of actual prestressed con- crete units,
