Main entrance to Hospital, showing service wing with theatre suites, kitchen etc.

The main kitchen is on the top floor of the building and a service lift takes the electric food trolleys to a servery on each floor. Two cold rooms operating on "York" equip. ment suitable for the storage of meat, vegetable and ice-cream will each take the requirements of the Hospital for one week without replenishment. All private rooms have adjoining bathrooms and mag. nificently appointed fittings.

Two 30 house-power steam boilers manufactured by Messrs. Clayton Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (U.K.) have been provided, each capable of sup plying 1000 lb. of steam per hour. In case of emergency the boilers can be automatically started up and will provide steam at full pressure within four minutes. In addition, two 250 gallon calorifiers store and supply all hot water requirements, one

calorifier operating at 150°F, pro- vides the water for domestic usage and other purposes, the other operat ing at 180°F provides hot water for the laundry.

In case of mains failure an emer- gency Brush generator rated at 50 kilowatts serves all essential lighting and power circuits. The generator can reach full load in approximately 30 seconds.

A marble statue, twelve feet high and weighing three tons, was im- ported from Italy by the Singapore Casket Company and placed in posi- tion on top of the building by the building contractors.

The architects were Swan & Maclaren who were also responsible for the structural, electrical and mechanical designed elements of the hospital.
