A very unusual shaped building, built on a very
unusual site, was recently completed at 69 Wyndham
Street. The rear of the building presents a much more
interesting aspect than the front view as the irregular
triangular shape of the building with the narrow end
fronting on Wyndham Street gives the impression of
its having been jammed between two old style residential
buildings behind which it seems to be hiding.
Looking across the vista of slum streets and build-
ings, this apartment block seems to spring from the filth
and squalor beneath it, like a Phoenix rising from the
ashes of its own destruction.
The shape of the house must have given the Archi-
tect, Mr. L. Biau, many a headache, as the fitting in of
rooms, halls, lifts, and stairways, not to mention kitchens
and servants quarters, in the size and shape presented
by this site must have taxed his ingenuity to the utmost.
