this system it is impossible to miss floors at which passen- gers may wish to enter or leave the cars. Waiting passengers are advised when a car is about to stop at their floor by lanterns over each entrance with illuminated direction arrows and a sound signal provided by a gong.

The lift cars are of steel construction with fans con- cealed behind the light fittings, bronze hand rails and emergency exits from one car to another. These new lifts were installed one at a time in order to interfere as little as possible with passenger traffic and the carrying capa- city has been considerably augmented by this system of SIGNAL CONTROL, increased speed of the cars and loading and unloading at floors. The A. P. C. are to be congratulated on their enterprise in carrying out this modernization scheme resulting in greatly improved ser- vice and appearance. The accompanying photographs contrast the appearance of the old and new lift installa- tion in this building.
