and road work, the road work ac counted for $100,000.
This is equal to a fourth of the cost of constructing the house itself. The residence, exclusive of furnish- ings, has cost $400,000.
It is of rigid frame construction, with seven very big cantilever beams, spanning about 14 ft., pro- jecting from the front.
The profile of the original site being what it was, it was necessary to project the front portion of the box-like frame farther out than would be acceptable by conventional architectural standards. But had that not been done it would have meant using excessively long support. ing columns, or costly filling in of the site.
On the ground floor, adjacent to the car port, there is a very big combined living and dining room, extending over 1,000 sq. ft., a guest room, study and kitchen.
The upper floor is reserved entire- ly for bedrooms.
In the basement there are a ser- vice area and about 1,500 sq.ft. intended for recreational uses.
The general contractor was Tin Lee Construction Co.
KWUN TONG COMMERCIAL CENTRE A comprehensive layout plan for a 14-acre commercial cen- tre, designed to be the hub of the new industrial township of Kwun Tong, has been approved by the Hong Kong Government.
The centre will contain shops, offices, flats and cinemas to meet the commercial and social needs of Kwun Tong's population, which is expected to increase to a quarter of a million when the township is fully developed in a few years' time.
Apart from being the heart of Kwun Tong, the commercial centre is also likely to become a sub- regional centre for the whole of East Kowloon, bringing within its in- fluence the populated areas Jordan Valley, Ngau Tau Kok, Junk Bay, Lei Yue Mun. Yau Tong and Cha Kwo Ling.
