UNUSUAL FEATURES IN SMALL BUNGALOW

A modern bungalow of unusual design and unique in its application for small bungalow construction in Singapore has been erected at Reserve Road off Meyer Road for Loong Teck Chow, Esq. It has been designed by Robert M. K. Yim of Messrs. Chung & Wong.
The general lines of the design are horizontal and the elevations have been relieved by the use of a square rubble granite wall, rising above the roof line and the use of flower troughs in red facing brick.
The elevations are pleasing, well balanced and free from monotony.
The bungalow is approached by an 8 ft. wide covered verandah giving direct access to the living room through double doors with wrought iron panels. A feature of the living room is the provision of a lighting trough to afford indirect lighting.
The dining room is entered by a square arch direct from the living room. The kitchen door is screened from view from the living room by the provision of a flower box. The balance of the accommodation comprises two double bedrooms, bathroom with shower, kitchen and servants' quarters.
The general specification provides for brick walls, with 4" mass concrete floor on 6" hard core filling, finished with tiles in the living and dining rooms and kitchen and teak parquet floor to the bedrooms.
The roof is constructed of 8′′ X 2′′ ceiling joists covered with 1′′ boarding with a bitumastic finish.
The 44" brick walls have been reinforced with "Exmet" at every eighth course.
