During the six months of this period under review a number of projects were completed. These include: New Residence for Hon. Colonial Secretary, Health Offices at To Kwa Wan and Aberdeen, Radio-Sonde Station in King's Park, Asiatic Police Quarters on Hollywood Road, Kowloon City Market, Wo Hop Shek Cemetery, Ex- tensions to Government Stores for Medical Department, and Offices for D.A.F.F. at Lai Chi Kok.

The plans for the proposed New Secretariat and Gov- ernment Offices have advanced to the stage of preparation of the specifica- tions; a start on the demolition of the existing Volunteer Headquarters will be made soon. A revised scheme has also been submitted for the building of the looted Government houses on Severn Road and their conversion into three blocks, each containing two flats. No further progress has been made locally on the Kennedy Road Abattoir, but Crown Agents have been request- ed to appoint consultants.

During the period under review, a total of 113 applications were received for purchase of Crown Land, including extensions to existing lots, exchanges, grants, etc. 13 Lots were sold by Public Auction realising a

sum of 800,000.00, and 3 lots were sold by Private Treaty amounting to $402,- 625.00. Extension of time for com- pletion of Building Covenants was granted on 51 lots, fines were imposed

In addition. 108 occupation permits were issued for non-domestic buildings, which included 18 temporary sheds, factories, 8 godowns, 6 stores and workshops; 2 office buildings, 8 shops; 6 garages; 3 cinema theatres; 5 schools and 1 additional Floor to All Saints Church School; 2 churches; 1 club- house and additions to Hong Kong Football Club; 1 Anti-Trachoma Clinic, and Headquarters for Anti-T.B. As- sociation; and various stores etc.

in each case; new Crown Leases were granted in respect of 5 lots. 13 lots were granted in exchange, whilst ex- tensions were granted to 2 lots. 463 permits were issued for temporary leasing of Crown Land, the total annual fee amounting to $822,575.00.

Routine survey work, reconstruction of records and permanent survey marks were continued.

158 dangerous buildings notices were served affecting 187 houses; 72 notices affecting 79 houses were served under Sections 104 and 126 of the Buildings Ordinance, 1935; 450 notices affecting illegal structures. 528 inspections and reports were made by this Office in regard to structural stability of pre- mises to be licensed by other depart- ments; and 255 tests and inspections of drainage system to various districts were carried out.
