A view of the building from the model. This building is so hemmed in on Pedder Street as to make it impossible to get a good picture of the completed building. We have, therefore, taken the unusual step of reproducing a picture of the model.

Jardine Engineering Corporation's new building in Pedder Street which was completed last year marked another step in the modernisation of Hong Kong's crowded business section.
This imposing eleven storied strue. ture is 153 feet high. It was erected ou 250 piles driven by the Vibro Piling Co., Ltd. and covers an area of 4,800
SLEL. ft.
The entire block is completely air- conditioned by the most modern system,
n York installation of 120 refrigeration tons, operating on Freon gas. The ductwork was built in during construc- tion and is completely concealed,
The external finish is of granite slabs to the window sills on the mezzan- ine floor facing Pedder Street whilst the walls facing the lanes are of Shanghai plaster. The rear wall is finished with **Snowcem*',
The front ground floor is neeunied by the Air Booking Centre'' Jardine's Airline Department, This Booking Cen- fre is well laid out and furnished with
nolished tenk counters etc., whilst two large windows facing Pedder Street give adequate space for the display of Travel Posters and other items. Two shons specialising in laces and China produets are in the side Inne, where also is loented the entrance lobby to the upper floors.
The building is served by two high speed automatic Schindler lifts and two stairways. Washrooms and lava- tories for the staff are situated adja- cent to the stairways at the rear of each floor,
The flooring to the offices is of teak parquet with the lift and main stair halls of terrazzo. The dadoes of these halls are finished in Shanghai plaster almost the full height to the ceiling.
Two styles of fluorescent lighting are used, cove lighting with the fittings convealed around the walls and beams, and ceiling panel lighting where the trough fitting is placed in the centre of the ceiling slab.
The majority of the floors are deeu- nied by various departments of Messrs. Jardine, Matheson and three reinfore ed couerete bridges connect the oli and new building at the Mezzanine, second and fourth floor levels.
