The residence of the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. L. T. Ride, is situated at the junction of Kotewall, Coudnet, Hatton and Po Shan Roads, at the very top of IL 1877, a large area of land be- longing to the University on which the three hostels, Ricci,
and Halls stand.

The architects for the building were Messrs. Chau & Lee who
tried very hard, and succeeded, in producing design which is different. The treat- ment of the entrance portico and en- trance ball with its rhomboid shape and rounded walls allows the principal several rooms to radiate from it in separate distinct areas which are never- theless interconnected as one unit. The covered terrace between the living room and dining room is a communicat- ing link between the two which can take care of the overflow from either room when required.
The interior design and decoration of the ground floor is formal and classi- eal, the furniture and furnishings be- ing specially designed to carry out the period character of the motif. The living room is a large squarish room, the north wall of which is almost en- tirely of glass, framing a most mag- nificent view of the harbour. This ar rangement of the windows, the setting of the fireplace, and the positioning of the furniture impart au impression of elegance to surroundings which are obviously devoted to formed entertain-
ment.
The long, rather narrow dining room further bears out this impression, ex- cept that here the effect is of round) - ness in contrast to the squareness of the living room. The windows, which are likewise grouped at one end of the room are set in the semi-circle of a deep bay: two ornamental Fecesses curved into the opposite wall bucking
