On the first floor are 24 wards each accommodating six persons with ancillary offices, and in the central hallway are X-ray rooms and consulting rooms. On the pent house floor is a children's ward with 27 beds and a flat terrace for sun- bathing.
One block of wards is reserved for tuberculosis cases and another for maternity cases. The rest are for general medical cases.
The Kwong Wai Siu is the only Chinese hospital in Singapore, other than the Tong Chye Hospital, which has wards for in-patients and which is entirely free and depending on donations and voluntary contribu tions.
It is a charitable institution run exclusively by the Chinese commu
nity. Its upkeep is derived from funds contributed by the Cantonese community from all walks of life. Contributions are also made by other charitable bodies. commercial firms. amateur and professional threatrical groups, clubs, associations and guilds.
The architect was Mr. Ng Keng Siang. Main contractor
