GENERAL CONTRACTORS' ASSOCIATION OF HONG KONG

It is probably not generally known that there exists in Hong Kong a General Contractors' Association which was formed and registered on the 7th August, 1937. The first officers and council were as follows:-

Generally speaking, the objects of the Association are to promote and protect the interests of the building and contracting trades in such manner as conditions shall from time to time require. Following is set out some of the objects of the Association in detail:

12. To establish and support, or aid in the establish- ment or support of associations, institutions, funds or trusts calculated to benefit employees or ex-employees of the Association or the dependents or connections of such persons, to grant pensions and allowances, to make payments towards insurance and to subscribe or guaran- tee money for any charitable, patriotic or benevolent purposes or for any exhibition or for any public or general or useful object.

For various reasons the Association has not been very active up to the present. On 30th November, 1938, the first annual general meeting of the Association was held and the following officers and Committee were elected:

President:

Hon. Secretary: Members of the Committee:

Mr. V. E. Kingsbury. Mr. Henry Graye.

Mr. A. W. de Broekert. Mr. Lam Chik Suen. Mr. Hugh Braga. Mr. Pang Yung Ting.

It was decided during the meeting that definite steps would be taken to interest contractors in the objects of the Association and to weld the Association into an active and beneficial unit of Hong Kong's Building Industry.

The Council invite all contractors in good standing to communicate with the Hon. Secretary, 2nd floor, Hong Kong Bank Building, who will be glad to furnish them with further information.
