BRITISH SCHOOL DESIGN FÖR EXHIBITION - Half a million visitors expected at this year's Twelfth Triennale in Milan will see an example of a modern British prefabricated school which combines high quality with low price.
Theme of the exhibition which opens on July 16 is "The Home and the School" and Britain's achieve- ment in the field of school architec- ture has led the Government to send a national exhibit to the Triennale for the first time.
The building has been designed by a team of four under the Notting- ham County Architect, Mr. W.D. Lacey. It is a typical three-class primary school designed under the consortium of British local authori- ties' special programme.

Since the war British school ar- chitects have not only altered the shape and physical surroundings of education but halved building costs as well, at the same time providing much more accommodation.
The consortium has been a means of lowering costs still further. Several authorities are co-operating to take advantage of bulk-buying and large-scale production.
The school going to Milan has a central assembly hall which rises over surrounding classrooms and the staff room.
Courtyards separating the rooms are an important part of the plan. The prefabricated steel frame can be erected in five days.
Building time in Milan will be nine and a half weeks against the usual time of 14 weeks.
Although the school will contain examples of school work the idea of filling it with English school children was dropped because of the expense.
When the Triennale closes in November the school will be moved to a Milan housing estate as a gift to the Italian Government.
