BUILDING

HONG KONG

The Western Telephone Exchange Building from Wing Lok Street.

Architects

Palmer & Turner

The new Western Telephone Exchange building behind the Western Market has been completed, and the Telephone Com- pany is now busily engaged in connecting up the lines for this district.

A full description of the building was given in a previous issue and, except for very minor changes, the completed struċ- ture is in accordance with the original plans. Most of the ground floor is the branch office of the postal service, but there is also a small office for Cable & Wireless, Ltd., and an accounts office for the Telephone Company. An air-condition- ing plant room is also located on this floor.

The whole of the first floor is reserved for the automatic exchange equipment and some 7,000 lines will be transferred from the Central Exchange to this new West- ern Exchange. During the transfer new lines will also be connected thereto.
