The kitchen and service area is an entirely separate section for family. cooking and informal meals. It is made up of a general kitchen area, large kitchen store, service porch, laundry, servants' quarters and a spacious car port.
Different levels
The house is located in a high-class residential area off Kia Peng Road where many foreign dignitaries have set up their homes. It is situated on the top of an elevated area, giving it a panoramic view of large parts of Kuala Lumpur. The immediate view is to- wards the Kuala Lumpur Race Course and the distant lime stone out-crop- pings of the Batu Caves area (about 12 miles from the Federal Capital.) Be- cause the surrounding properties have large and well landscaped gardens, the impression is gained from within the site of being located amid a large wooded area, which slopes gently down from Changkat Kia Peng to Kia Peng Road.
The site is bordered on its lowest side by Kia Peng Road, and on its opposite highest side by Changkat Kia Peng. It was therefore decided to enter the site from the upper road, as this provides a more private approach and allows all the main rooms to overlook the lower front garden, giving the best view and one that is undisturbed by the less attractive entrance car park located above.
