as general offices, library, headmaster's room and prefects' room. Classrooms are grouped on the four levels below fifth, while above it are the handicraft rooms on the sixth floor, science laboratories on the seventh and eigth and staff quarters on the ninth.
The school is a co-educational middle school containing 24 class- rooms, each for 45 pupils. As an 80 per cent Grant-in-aid school it was designed to conform with Government specifications and to be within a Government-approved budget. Covered playground
On such a site it was not easy to keep within the limits of these stan- dards. For example there was virtually no level ground for playspace or park- ing and it was found that the extra cost of incorporating both these facili- ties within the building development was even so less expensive than cutting them out of the rock face.
A large covered playground takes up most of the ground floor area and there is another below the assembly. hall. The lease conditions called for parking space for 24 cars and this is provided under cover above the as-
