THE Assam Bubok irrigation area in Malaysia is situated in the State of Johore in the Federation of Malaya. The area lies west of the main road from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, be- tween Yong Peng and Ayer Hitam, about 168 miles from Kuala Lumpur From a swamp of the Sungei Sem-

brong east of the main road, water is supplied to irrigate about 2,500 acres, and two miles north of Ayer Hitam. The Sungei Sembrong flows from east to west and crosses the road at Brizay bridge.
From a swamp of the Sungei Sem- brong east of the main road, water is
supplied to irrigate about 2,500 acres, lying west of the road. Frequent short- ages of water resulted in crop failures or reduced the rice yield and several proposals were put forward at frequent intervals for the supply of adequate irrigation water to the area by the construction of a reservoir on the Ulu Sembrong in the upper reaches of the Sungei Sembrong.
In the final stages it was found that about 2,600 acres could be developed in the Assam Bubok area. Preliminary computations were made and it was found that a reservoir with a nett capa- city of 9,500 acre feet, would be re- quired to irrigate the 2,600 acres for two crops of rice per year.
The level of the sill of the sluice to command the 2,600 acres would have to be at elevation 19.00. The capacity
