Sinterglass
A new Mosaic. The result of a new technology:
mosaics
a special firing process which gives rise to the formation of uniform and compact crystals, both white and coloured throughout its entire mass. It appears in the form of an extremely hard, homogeneous impervious enamel which combines finest characteristics of glass and porcelain. These characteristics, the uniformity In shape of the tesserae and the wide range of colours contribute in overcoming the usual limitations encountered in the application of mosaic.
SINTERGLASS come in three types:
LUX type with a smooth or dimpled high-gloss surface. MAT type, dull, non-slip, with a smooth satined surface SIL type with an intermediate glass in varying finishes e.g. smooth, hammered, diamond and bamboo. Sinterglass: the following are the technical characteristics determined in laboratory tests:
— 7.2 reading in the Mohs Scale (between quartz and topaz).
Resistance to rate of wear and abrasion: 0,000413

(between prophyry and granite).
- Compressive strenght: 1200 kg/cm2.
- Completely impervious (in marbre, for instance, average
penetration of a colouring solution is 5 to 15 mm). Proof against chemical attack (except bydrofluoric acid). Thermal expansion: 0,0000099 from 0°C to 300°C.
— Exceptional resistance to thermal shock
(tested from
―
10° to +50°C and from + 10° to - 50°C). - Completely colour fast (no alterations to material
exposed to ultraviolet ray for 500 hours).
