Over 60 per cent of the cement necessary to produce the 90,000 cu.yd. of concrete required for stage I was produced in Hong Kong. The re- maining 40 per cent came from Tai- wan and Japan.
Sand and aggregates were obtained from local quarries and the Hong Kong Sand Monopoly.
Approximately 7,000 tons of mild and high tensile reinforcing steel were required for stage I. At least 90 per cent of this steel was produced locally. In the case of locally manufactured high tensile steel, the billets were ob- tained from overseas sources and roll- ing, cutting and bending were done in Hong Kong.
Of the total brick requirements, 75 per cent were obtained from New Ter- ritories brick yards and 25 per cent im- ported from Taiwan.
Over 2,500 lineal feet of 2ft. dia- meter precast reinforced concrete re- fuse chutes was manufactured locally, as was all the precast concrete pipe- work for the site drainage.
